Bulgaria hosts for the first time
In May 2026 Bulgaria won Eurovision in Vienna with Bangaranga by Dara. It was the country's first win, which means the first Bulgarian-hosted contest. On 13 August the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgarian National Television (BNT) named the host city: Burgas.

Who's in and who's out
As of August, 22 countries had said they intend to take part. Two stories stand out:
- Canada will debut, the first newcomer since Australia in 2015.
- North Macedonia returns after an absence since 2022.
The Netherlands will not return: broadcaster AVROTROS cited its objection to Israel's participation. In 2026, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain skipped the contest for the same reason. Several of these countries have not yet announced their plans for 2027. Israel has confirmed it will compete.
Rule changes
- The minimum age for contestants rises from 16 to 18.
- Limits are coming on pre-recorded backing vocals.
- According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, moving the public vote fully online is under discussion.

The contest is more than six months away, but Eurovision songs play all year round:
